One Earth Project

When cheers filled the air to reign in 2020, we had no idea what we were about to face. It would prove to be quite an interesting year, to say the least. Society quickly transitioned into a shell of its former self. People were no longer casually walking the streets of places such as NYC, but all inside—waiting to see when it would be safe to even have a cup of coffee with a dear friend.

Many took to social media and streaming to help time pass, and definitely gave a new definition to Netflix & Chill. No longer were you with your friends or significant others watching Netflix & Chilling, but just you and yourself. These were the moments that we were given to get to know ourselves again, and I did just that with the help of Zac Efron. No, unfortunately this did not include a one on one with him personally, bummer—I know.

I did however, check out his new documentary Down to Earth. I’m sure you’re thinking, “She only watched because she thinks he’s super cute.”  That, my friend, is only partly true, and I like the way you think! Seriously though, if you haven’t watched it, please do so as soon as possible. Not to be overly dramatic, but watching Down to Earth honestly changed my life. No, this isn’t a promotional scheme so much as it’s me trying to simply figure out my place in this gigantic world, and help a few people along the way.

Prior to the pandemic, I lived a pretty fast paced life. There were personal commitments, family commitments, gatherings with friends, and a job that literally consumed far too much of my life. However, never in my everyday life did I think my actions held more consequences than were visible to the naked eye. I also didn’t think about how many people suffered lives that were so hectic they simply spiraled out of control. Although their lives were hectic they still found time to show great appreciation for their lives and the lives of those around them. In this moment I stopped thinking so selfishly about myself, and started thinking more about the rest of the world.

“I’m not saying that I didn’t care. I simply never took time to focus and think about the more meaningful things in life.”

I began to wonder what I could do to change—to make a difference in this crazy world. Ideas of volunteering, using my voice, and helping my community began to take over my mind. I immediately began searching for opportunities. While searching I came across several different programs that allowed one to travel and volunteer around the world. I couldn’t believe it! Right before my eyes were all the answers to these mind altering questions that had begun to invade my thoughts. A way for me to travel and see the world while helping others seemed like the perfect idea. Somehow, I just couldn’t bring myself to spend money in order to volunteer, so I did the next best thing I could. I decided to pick up my brushes again and paint. I wanted my art to sing from my heart so that it might help this world in any way. Art has a way of inspiring, uplifting, and challenging people to think outside of the box.

“I give you my heart on a canvas.”
